Summary
A benzimidazole (nitazene-class) opioid, and one of the weakest members of that class rather than one of the strong ones. The frequently quoted "three times morphine" figure is from a 1957 rodent analgesia study; the only human comparison, a 1959 series in non-tolerant former morphine users, found clonitazene roughly one-third to one-fifth as potent as morphine by mouth β about codeine strength. It is a relative of etonitazene, which is far more potent, but that potency does not carry across: within the nitazenes clonitazene sits at the weak end.
Dose Information
Dose basis. These figures are not clinical data. They were derived from a morphine dose ladder divided by a 1957 rodent potency figure (~3x morphine). The only human comparison on record points the other way β roughly one-third to one-fifth of morphine, i.e. codeine-strength β so this ladder is likely to understate the amount involved rather than overstate it. Treat every number as unverified, do not stack redoses against it, and note that unregulated nitazene-class material is frequently misrepresented.

Effect Profile
class estimateScores (0–10) curated from multiple sources:
- Effect keyword matching from PsychonautWiki catalog
- No reports exist for this substance. Its effect list is the one shared by 1 other substance of the same class, so the scores below describe the class, not this compound.
- Weighted by importance: core (×3), major (×2), minor (×1)
Strong euphoria with mild sedation and itching/nausea
Tolerance
No tolerance chart. Our decay curves for opioids were estimates, and a curve can make tolerance look longer-lasting than it is, which is the dangerous direction.
Opioid tolerance drops fast when you stop, and even a few days off can be enough, so a dose that used to be normal can now stop your breathing. Overdose deaths rise sharply after prison, detox or leaving treatment, and tolerance also falls during a hospital stay. After any break, start with a much smaller amount, try a test dose first, don't use alone, and keep naloxone within reach. Alcohol, benzodiazepines, gabapentinoids and other sedatives make an opioid overdose much more likely.

Add to PsychonautWiki Journal
The PsychonautWiki Journal logging app doesn't include every substance. To track Clonitazene there, start adding an ingestion, search for the name, and choose to add it as a custom substance. Paste these values:
Clonitazene Source: SubstanceSearch (substancesearch.com) Oral dose (mg): light 2.5-5 Β· common 5-10 Β· strong 10-15 Β· heavy 15+ Oral duration: onset 10-30m Β· peak 4-8h Β· after-effects 1-8h Note: ranges are harm-reduction guidance, not a prescription. Start low, go slow, and test your substances.
Tip: for quicker logging you can also add a Custom Unit in the app, e.g. common dose ~ 7.5 mg (Oral).
The app keeps custom substances simple, so the full dose ranges live in the description text above. Ranges are harm-reduction guidance, not a prescription.
